The Cedar Rapids Community School District’s Board of Education is pleased to announce the election of a new board president. At the regular CRCSD Board Meeting, held on November 20th, the seven members of the Board of Education unanimously elected Cindy Garlock as their new Board President.

Cindy Garlock brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to education to her new role as president. As a retired teacher and serving as vice president of the board for the last four years, Cindy has already demonstrated dedication and a collaborative approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by the school district. As she assumes the role of president, Cindy is poised to lead with integrity and transparency, with a focus on fostering an environment that promotes academic excellence and student well-being.

“I am honored and humbled to take on the role of president of the board. As a retired teacher, I believe I bring a unique and valuable perspective to the board and the district,” commented Cindy Garlock. “I am grateful for the trust and confidence that my fellow board members have placed in me. Together, we will continue to work collaboratively to ensure that our students receive the best possible education for their future success.”

Outgoing Board President, David Tominsky, expressed confidence in the newly elected president, stating, “Cindy has served as vice president for several years and also serves on several committees at the local and state level. She is committed to the success of our staff and students. I have no doubt that she will continue to guide the district in the right direction.”

Also, at the meeting, David Tominsky was elected as vice president of the board. This person would fill in for the president if they are not able to attend a meeting or fulfill their duties. David has served on the CRCSD Board of Education for four years, and was just reelected for another term.

The Cedar Rapids Community School District’s Board of Education looks forward to continued progress and success under the leadership of President Garlock. The board remains committed to its mission of providing a high-quality education and fostering a positive learning environment for all students. All Board of Education members are volunteers and are vital to the governance of the school district.
