The Cedar Rapids Community School District is thrilled to celebrate an extraordinary honor for one of our own! Susie Stark, a dedicated educator at Viola Gibson Elementary, has been named one of Iowa’s nine Regional Teachers of the Year by the Iowa Department of Education and is now a finalist for the prestigious 2025 Iowa Teacher of the Year award.
Selected from nominations submitted by educators, students, families, and community members, Susie’s recognition is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her students and her passion for education. She is a shining example of CRCSD’s mission to equip, empower, and engage students to excel.
With 24 years of experience teaching second and fifth grade, Susie has inspired countless young minds with creative and engaging lessons that spark curiosity and foster a love of learning. A proud University of Northern Iowa graduate, she holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education. Beyond the classroom, Susie leads after-school clubs and organizes community service projects, demonstrating her dedication to nurturing well-rounded students ready to take on the world.
The 2025 Iowa Teacher of the Year award winner will be announced later this year. The individual chosen will serve as an ambassador for the Iowa Department of Education, advocating for teachers and students across the state.
