CRCSD enriches the community and embraces all backgrounds and cultures. We share a learning environment that welcomes everyone, as we prepare all students with pathways and passions for the future.
We’re constantly building an environment and community where our students, staff, and stakeholders can succeed. Take a glimpse at our programs and initiatives.
Cedar Rapids Community School District is home to six magnet schools—three elementaries, two middle schools, one high school—which focus on sustainability, STEAM, leadership, and business.
The gifted education and PACT program enhances and supports the educational experience of high ability students to prepare them to become world class learners and responsible citizens.
Career and technical education provides quality programming aligned with workforce needs, developed in partnership with local companies. It engages students in the application of other academic content to help prepare them for the future.
Iowa BIG celebrates the unique partnership between school districts and area businesses, and is an opportunity for high school students to expand their learning outside the traditional classroom for part of the school day.
We are committed to implementing sustainable practices to protect our environment and reduce our carbon footprint through facility and grounds improvements, development planning, technology updates, and school green teams.

What a powerful day! ✨ Johnson STEAM Academy Magnet School celebrated Black History Month with an inspiring all-school assembly. Our JSA leaders shared moving reflections from the incredible book “The Undefeated” by Kwame Alexander and Kadir Nelson.
Arts are truly embedded at JSA! Each grade level brought history to life by highlighting the actions of influential Black figures across different time periods. We also took time to honor members of our community who are making a difference.
We’re not just sitting on the sidelines. Last night, our community coalition members spoke up about what these proposed consolidation plans really mean for our families and the district. Watch the highlights in the video below.

We are grateful for the care, questions, and engagement our families and staff are bringing to this work. Your voices are helping shape the path forward, and we remain committed to moving through this process with transparency, collaboration, and respect for our community.
These new ideas were not made by just a few people. A group of more than 100 parents, community members, and staff worked together to build them. They looked at each plan to make sure it was a "viable" (strong) choice that would help students succeed.
The goal is to make sure every student has the same great tools and teachers, no matter which school they attend.
The Three Options The community group suggested three paths to the board on Monday. All three do include school closures while focusing on giving students a better experience from preschool through high school. You can learn more about each proposed model here: crschools.us/about/strategic-plan/strategic-plan-planning-the-future/ – Intermediate Model: Students go to school for grades PK-4, 5–6, 7–8, & 9-12. – 5-8 Middle School Model: Students go to school for grades PK-4, 5-8, & 9-12 – 2 High School Model: This moves the district to two main high schools with building split by the following grades PK–4, 5–6, 7–9.
Once you’ve learned more about each model, we would love your feedback on each. We are collecting emails to ensure every voice is heard equally. Please take our community survey, the survey closes Feb 3rd at 9 AM.
