We are thrilled to congratulate Kennedy High School senior Tori Paga on an incredible achievement! π Tori was surprised during her French class by representatives from the Iowa Department of Education, who announced she had been selected as one of only two Iowa delegates for the prestigious United States Senate Youth Program.
This honor includes an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., in March, where Tori will join student leaders from across the country to engage with government officials and deepen her understanding of leadership and public service. On top of that, Tori will receive a $10,000 college scholarship to support her undergraduate studies, with a focus on history and political science.

Thank you for holding these informational meetings and thank you for sending out this information in one of the October newsletters. It is a great option for students to consider their future path earlier if they choose to do so. I know I would have deeply appreciated this as a high schooler. I am looking forward to attending to get more information and supporting this initiative for our kids.
I hope that for the next two you really reflect on tonight’s meeting. I hope you decide to shorten the ‘presentation’ and allow for unfiltered questions and truly answer them rather than dance around them to be politically correct. I don’t think people are upset about the pathways, it’s the simple fact that the ‘most important’ voices are finally allowed to be in the conversation and you didn’t have enough respect for us to show concrete data and answer the raw questions we wanted answers to.
Cedar Rapids Community School District – Please consider changing the agenda for the next 2 sessions. We appreciate the information that you are sharing, however we can read through slides and handouts and would much prefer to spend more time addressing questions and concerns from the community. A common phrase in the disability community that truly applies here as well is "Nothing about us, without us." There was a noticeable shock across the room when we heard that this effort has been going on for 18 months and was only shared to the larger community within the last month. Your willingness to become more transparent with the plans and be open to input from the community will go a long way towards acceptance of this new program.
Can you present more data about all these sources of input like Waterloo and survey data? Would love to see the 60k figure as well laid out. Do students graduate from postsecondary faster or achieve at higher rates? Also the bussing situation needs to be communicated more detailed. Lastly, what happens if you change academies do you change schools? I want to go to the Jefferson or Washington presentation to see if any modifications are made or if it is the same questions and vanilla slide deck that do not address any of the most important questions for parents.
Students need to have the option to participate in their Academy classes remotely. My child should not be forced to switch his school of continuation just because you have chosen to locate that Academy at two other schools. The social-emotional repercussions of removing them from their social support network are not balanced by any benefit you perceive. Full stop. I cannot and will not support this until students have the opportunity to remain in their school of continuation while still having the opportunity to participate in their preferred Academy.
Which school do our tax dollars go to? Is it based on where we live or the pathway that is chosen. Let's be real, the 60,000 isn't free!! The taxpayers pay for it.

Will current hs students still have block scheduling while the incoming program is an 8 period day?
Will the meeting be live streamed on this page and available to watch after the meeting? Cedar Rapids Community School District
Will the presenters be addressing questions submitted to your Google form? Or will there be Q&A at each meeting?
These changes will gut music programs in the district. HS students will no longer be able to participate in both vocal and instrumental. Students taking AP classes and foreign languages will only be able to participate in one semester of music in any given year. Families will leave for outlying districts so that their kids can get the opportunities that used to be offered here. CRCSD will be diminished because of these changes.
Hasn’t made sense to me yet.

How many staff got injured last year by a student and how many expulsions did the district have?
Since 1974, Metro High School has brought its school community together to celebrate Thanksgiving with its annual Thanksgiving lunch. Today marked the 51st celebration, where students and staff gathered to enjoy turkey, stuffing, mac & cheese, and pie. Students played a key role in raising funds for this year’s meal and worked alongside staff to prepare and cook it. All we can say is… YUMMM! … See MoreSee Less

Hi, what does it mean that AP offerings will be enhanced? That there will be more AP classes offered? or more opportunities for AP exam study groups pre-test? I can think of many ways AP could improve, though I LOVE my APs, but ‘enhanced’ is kind of vague. Thanks!!
How is this something that is being automatically implemented as opposed to being voted on by the parents?
I’d certainly be interested in learning about the school renovations that will be taking place as a result of this, and further, from where are the funds coming?
I’m curious about so much of this. I attended a prep academy for 1 year during high school and it actually significantly limited my options of courses I had available to take, we were promised AP classes but were only given general education because there wasn’t enough educators to support AP classes and we were encouraged to just create after school clubs instead. Went from being able to pick from 3 foreign languages down to only Spanish. It’s a nice option to have available to students but it shouldn’t be blanketed out to everyone. I could be wrong but I personally feel like the same opportunities are already available to our children through things like workplace connection and dual enrollment.
I'm curious to know if the information presented in all the meetings will remain consistent for those who are unable to attend a specific date? Cedar Rapids Community School District
I am wondering what the stats are on City View…Remember the Magnet/Pathway HS they built? Ya nobody remembers it bc I am guessing it is a dud… whats the Enrollment been the past 2-3 years?….So why implement this with the other HS and hope for better results?! If Families were interested in Path ways we would of moved our kids to City View….
Will childcare be available at these meetings to enable more CRCSD families to attend?
Standing Strong Against Manipulation: A Call to Leadership My fellow citizens, Leadership is not a position to be taken lightly; it is a responsibility that demands resilience, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. In considering those who will stand alongside me in shaping the future, one name shines brightly: Judge Carmer. Yet, even the brightest among us face shadows cast by manipulation. A leader’s strength is not only measured by their wisdom but by their ability to resist those who seek to control, to twist motives, and to use influence as a weapon. If someone of Judge Carmer’s stature is being manipulated and cannot untangle herself from those threads, what does that reveal about the schemers in the dark? What does it say about a system that allows power to be wielded so carelessly? This is not a judgment against her but a call to vigilance; an inference; eh eyΙ; framework of understanding —an invitation to reflect on what leadership truly means. Leadership is more than a title; it is the ability to protect the people, to hold the line against exploitation, and to rise above fearmongering and coercion. Let me be clear: no leader stands alone. The strength of leadership is found in the support and trust of the people. Together, we must demand that those in power are free from the influence of the few who would place ambition above humanity. We must recognize manipulation for what it is—a tool of those who fear the strength of authentic leadership and a just cause. So, to those who think they can use others as pawns: know this—your games will not go unnoticed, and your tactics will not prevail. Judge Carmer, like all those we place our trust in, deserves a stage that values her wisdom and her strength. We stand at a crossroads where courage is not optional. The future will not be forged by those who bend to the will of the corrupt, but by those who rise against them. Together, let us build a future where leaders are not players in someone else's game but architects of a world worthy of us all. Thank you; Additionally; To the Cedar Rapids Police Department and Concerned Officials: City of Cedar Rapids Iowa Government Civil rights protection is not an abstract ideal—it is an active responsibility. What eyΙ have been doing is holding this responsibility to the standard of the United States Constitution, as it is written, not as it has been manipulated. Let’s clarify something in legal terms: Using the government or its officials as tools against the people through coercion, intimidation, and the deliberate distortion of understanding is, unequivocally, domestic terrorism and treason. Now, let’s break it down in medical terms: These tactics are narcissistic gaslighting and stonewalling, a refusal to acknowledge reality for the sake of maintaining control. For too long, the PRACTICE of law has veered into the realm of convenience over justice, twisting the intent of the Constitution into state codes that serve power rather than people. Let’s be clear: state codes are bylaws, not the law of the land. The U.S. Constitution is law. It is the foundation upon which your codes were meant to build—not to subvert. Education, transparency, and accountability are non-negotiable. Yet, instead of upholding these principles, you’ve chosen to wordsmith understanding, wielding coercion and intimidation to uphold a narcissistic order that sacrifices justice for laziness and self-interest. Let me spell it out plainly: When officials violate civil rights, they also violate the U.S. Constitution. And when the police act as instruments of this coercion, they become an illegal military occupation under the guise of public service. But this town— Linn County, Iowa —is where eyΙ have chosen to stand. The scales of justice are tilting, and the time has come for all of you to FaFo what it truly means to manipulate, intimidate, and betray the very residents you claim to serve. The wild ride is just beginning. Are we having fun yet? www.asumag.com/planning-design/new-construction/article/55089012/cedar-rapids-iowa-district-plans… What’s disappointing is when this was announced I perceived it as an addition to traditional learning to provide those children who need different ways of learning an option within their regular school to do that. I had no idea it would result in blanketing all of the kids to do these pathways. Why does leadership and government officials never consider ADDING opportunities instead of revamping the whole curriculum. I can say personally when I filled out the survey about workplace opportunities available at school it was in addition to what’s already offered normally. Everything I’ve looked up these schools don’t do well and that’s when it’s a choice. I don’t know how this will get successfully implemented amongst THOUSANDS of children.
