We are excited to welcome your kindergartener into the Cedar Rapids Community School District! To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 15th. Below are the links to enroll and register a new student in the Cedar Rapids Community School District for the current school year (August 2024-June 2025). Kindergarten registration for the next school year (Aug 2025-June 2026) will open on January 6th.
Register a New Kindergarten Student – for Next School Year (2025-2026)
Please use the links below (Coming January 6, 2025) to enroll and register a new kindergarten student at the Cedar Rapids Community School District for NEXT school year, which tentatively runs from August 26, 2025, through June 4, 2026.
**If your student attended Preschool with CRCSD, you DO NOT need to do this step.**

Alternative kindergarten
If your student needs another year before entering kindergarten, you may be interested in our alternative kindergarten program. You can indicate your interest when completing your kindergarten registration form. You will receive an email with more information if your student qualifies. Interested students will be screened to determine eligibility.
If your student does not qualify for alternative kindergarten, they will be enrolled in their resident school for kindergarten.
Required documents
- Proof of Birthdate – Acceptable documents include a birth certificate (not a hospital record), passport/visa, physician’s statement, adoption papers, etc.
- Proof of Residence – A document showing proof of address in the parent/guardian’s name, such as a current utility bill, mortgage statement, or rental agreement (not a driver’s license).
- Accepted proof of residency documents:
- Gas or electric utility bill (last or current month)
- Pay stub (last or current month)
- Property tax bill
- Mortgage statement
- Current signed lease or rental agreement
- Purchase contract

- Current Immunization Record or Exemption Certificate, from a medical provider (please remember that immunizations MUST be compliant with state law to start school).
Required documents can be uploaded in the online registration process, emailed to registration@crschools.us, or provided directly to your student’s school.
