An In-District Permit is a request completed by a parent or guardian to have their student attend a Cedar Rapids school outside of their resident attendance area.
The application window for In-District Permits for the 2026–2027 school year is now open.
Please note: Available space is reviewed as part of our school capacity process, so responses to permit requests may take additional time. We appreciate your patience.
Eligibility
Parents or guardians may request an In-District Permit if their student meets one of the following:
- The student has moved but wants to continue at their current school
- The student has a sibling at the requested school
- The student has unique circumstances (see flow chart below)
Students attending a school through an approved In-District Permit are NOT eligible for district transportation.

If a student (or parent/guardian) believes they are being bullied or harassed at a CRCSD school, complete the Bullying and Harassment Complaint Form. Building administration and Student Services will follow up after submission. Visit our Bullying and Harassment information page for more details. Contact your student’s school or 319-558-2259 for assistance.
Please Note: Admission to Magnet schools is by lottery. Learn more about the magnet school lottery here. You will not need to complete an In-District Permit.
